It provides strategic oversight of key infrastructure programmes and networks, builds research capability and capacity across the system, and ensures that research infrastructure generates high-quality evidence to inform policy, improve services, reduce inequalities and deliver better outcomes for patients, service users and communities. There are options to extend the contract by up to 4 years.
