351b93b7-b12a-44f2-b5a7-77f8c807a000-817687Historic England wishes to commission a comprehensive review of Archaeological Priority Areas for the London Borough of Enfield in support of the London Plan, the Enfield Local Plan and development management casework advice provided by GLAAS. An Archaeological Priority Area (APA) is a defined area where, according to existing information, there is significant known archaeological interest or particular potential for new discoveries. APAs act as a trigger for consultation with the borough's archaeological adviser and are justified by a description of significance which will inform development management advice and decision making. The appraisal can also indicate how archaeology might contribute towards a positive strategy for conserving and enjoying the local historic environment, for example through recognising local distinctiveness or securing social or cultural benefits. The review will make use of information provided by the Greater London Historic Environment Record (GLHER) and other relevant published sources to complete an APA Appraisal for Enfield in accordance with the Greater London Archaeological Priority Area Guidelines . This project is designed to accelerate the London Archaeological Priority Review Programme, a comprehensive borough by borough modernisation of the strategic framework for managing London's archaeological heritage. It will be commissioned and managed by the London and South-East Office of Historic England, through the Greater London Archaeological Advisory Service.
