4bb40b7a-119f-45e5-b169-fdb4871e6bd9-851780West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA, the CA) is responsible for delivering a Mass Transit (MT) system for West Yorkshire (WY). It has been provided with in principle support from Government and initial investment to make a case for MT to the Secretary of State. The MT system will deliver strategic infrastructure across all 5 of the West Yorkshire local authorities The case for a rail based urban transit system is based on the need to address an outdated urban transport system that is focused on the car. Modern cities and conurbations require public transport networks that are not overcrowded and provide reliable journey times - to deliver effective connectivity and movement, creating economic opportunity. A modern mass transit solution is also required to address current pollution, public health and environmental problems, and also as an effective action to assist in the decarbonisation of the regional economy.
